Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between two similar shades?
Use the recommended pigment as your starting point, then compare the alternatives based on the client’s natural coloring, desired depth, existing pigment, and how much warmth or coolness is needed. When in doubt, choose the softer or lighter option. It is easier to build depth than to correct a result that heals too dark.
What if the existing PMU is heavily saturated?
The Pigment Finder is designed to guide color selection, but it cannot determine whether the skin can safely accept more pigment. If the existing work is very dark, dense, migrated, or significantly misshapen, correction may not be the best first step. Evaluate the skin carefully and consider lightening or removal before adding more pigment.
Can correction and target pigment be applied together?
Follow the application order shown in your results. A plus sign means the pigments should be mixed before application. Separate steps indicate that the correcting color should be applied first, followed by the target color. Depending on the saturation and condition of the existing PMU, those steps may be performed during the same appointment or at separate appointments using the artist’s professional judgment.
What does “one drop” mean?
“One drop” means adding one drop of the specified modifier or complementary color to your working portion of pigment. Mix thoroughly before application. Because drop size and working portions can vary, always evaluate the mixture visually and adjust conservatively when needed.
Are recommendations suitable for machine and hand methods?
Yes. SofTap pigments can be used with both the SofTap hand method and PMU machines. Your technique, needle choice, dilution, implantation depth, and number of passes will still affect how the color heals.
When should previous pigment be removed instead of corrected?
Consider removal or lightening when the existing pigment is too dark, heavily saturated, migrated, layered repeatedly, or outside the desired shape.
Correction works best when there is enough room in the skin to add color safely and predictably. When the skin or existing work is questionable, do not force a correction; lightening first may produce a cleaner and more desireable result.
